An integral part of the forestry and forestry engineering program, summer practicum is a ten week program that takes the students outside of the classroom and into the outdoors. The practicum experience is held at the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center outside of Andalusia, AL. Students live and work at the Dixon Center taking courses that provide them with hands-on experience in the field skills necessary for their education and future careers. The center resides on 5300 acres of forestland and includes dormitories, a student lounge, a functioning kitchen, and classrooms. After a student has met the minimum requirements for acceptance into practicum, usually between their sophomore and junior year, they should apply using the online application. Application for admission to practicum must be made no later than March 1st prior to the summer experience. Applicants are required to submit (1) the Summer Practicum application form, (2) official transcript(s) of any transfer coursework, and (3) a spring schedule of courses (signed by the student's collegiate advisor) showing that all necessary courses are scheduled for completion prior to Summer Practicum. You must have been admitted to Auburn University before you can be eligible for admission to the Summer Practicum. Letters of admission decisions will be sent to all applicants on April 2. Applicants not selected may re-apply in succeeding years. |
