| deodar cedar Cedrus deodara Pinaceae |
Needles are not fascicled but clustered on small lateral branches, up to 1 1/2 inches long, blue-green, and evergreen. Foliage appears wispy from a distance and the crown is pyramid-shaped. Bark is brown and smooth on young trees and rough and grooved on larger trees. Cones are large, blue-green, and erect on branches, and they fall apart on the branch the second season. Deodar cedar is from the Himalayas and is a popular ornamental.
