bulletginkgo    Ginkgo biloba    Ginkgoaceae

Leaves are alternate, deciduous and fan-shaped with parallel veination. Bark is light gray-brown and grooved.  Small lateral spur branches are evident on branches.  Although ginkgo is a gymnosperm and doesn't produce true fruit, the seed of female trees resembles a plum and emits an unpleasant odor. Ginkgo is a living fossil and is planted as an ornamental throughout the U.S.
