Leaves are simple, alternate, deciduous, and heart- or deltoid-shaped with a pair of glands at the leaf base and a long-pointed leaf apex. Twigs are smooth, exuding milky sap when broken. Fruit is a capsule that looks like popcorn. Popcorn tree is from Asia and has aggressively naturalized in the southeast.
