bulletmountain laurel  Kalmia latifolia  Ericaceae

Leaves are simple, alternate, evergreen, 3-4 inches long, elliptical in shape and leathery. Twigs are green to red-brown. Bark is red-brown and scaly. Flowers are showy pink to white. Fruit is a capsule. Mountain laurel is found on drier mountain slopes in the eastern US and on stream banks in the southern Piedmont.
