Leaves are simple, opposite, deciduous, ovate, with teeth pointing outward, unlobed, and pinnately-veined. Flowers are in showy, white, flat-topped clusters. Fruit is a dark blue drupe. Arrow-wood is a shrub found in moist upland and coastal plain forests of southeastern U.S. The fruit is eaten by song and game birds, small mammals and deer.
