possumhaw  Ilex decidua   Aquifoliaceae

Leaves are up to 3 inches long, simple, alternate, and deciduous, elliptical to obovate in shape with round-toothed margins and gland-tipped teeth.  Twigs are green to light gray with lenticels. Bark is gray-brown and fairly smooth.  Fruit is a striking red drupe.  Possumhaw is a shrub or small tree found on moist soils in the eastern and southern U.S.   The fruit is a favorite of birds.
