February 16-17, 2001 Carbon Sequestration in Longleaf Pine Ecosystems: Current State of Knowledge and Information Needs (pdf brochre) The Center for Longleaf Pine Ecosystems in conjunction with the Fish and Wildlife Service East Gulf Coastal Plain Joint Venture will be hosting a meeting “Carbon Sequestration in Longleaf Pine Ecosystems: Current State of Knowledge and Information Needs” to be held on February 16-17, 2010 at the School of Forestry & Wildlife Sciences, Auburn University. General topics to be covered include: carbon markets and policy; biology of carbon sequestration from tree to ecosystem; carbon accounting models for longleaf pine; carbon sequestration potential of longleaf pine ecosystems in relation to wildlife habitat management and forest management practices; economics of carbon sequestration in longleaf pine; current projects and initiatives; and long-term information and research needs. Dr. Virginia Burkett, Chief Scientist for Global Change Research with the U.S. Geological Survey and co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, will present a keynote address on “Climate Change Trends and Projections for the Southeast: Implications for Forest Ecosystems".
