Master of Natural Resources (MNR) This is a non-thesis degree with three options depending upon the background and interests of the student. The Advanced Forestry Studies option is for students with an undergraduate degree in forestry that are interested in continuing their education for 1 - 1.5 years in order to specialize and focus their undergraduate degree at the graduate level. The Professional Forester option is for students without a BS in Forestry that are interested in becoming Registered Foresters in the state of Alabama. This option parallels the BS in Forestry with many courses taken at a graduate level. This degree takes two years to complete and begins with the Summer Field Practicum. The Natural Resource Management option is for students with a BS in a biologically related major that are interested in careers in the management and policy making for our natural resources. This option can be completed in 1 - 1.5 years depending upon coursework selected. Master of Science (MS) MS degrees are research based degrees requiring the completion and defense of a masters thesis and are offered in both Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. Generally these degrees take between 2 and 3 years depending upon the research project. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) PhD degrees are research based degrees requiring the completion and defense of a doctoral dissertation. The length of time required to complete a PhD varies greatly depending upon the extent of the research for the dissertation, but generally ranges from 3 to 5 years. |
