Stephanie is investigating patterns of reproductive success in male white-tailed deer. Specifically, she is interested in the relationships between reproductive success and body size, age, and antler characteristics. The development of the Auburn University Deer Lab has provided a captive population that simulates the behavior of a wild population, creating a unique situation where she can effectively determine both maternity and paternity of each individual in the population through genetic analysis. Measurements of the deer combined with the results of the genetic analysis will allow her to identify males with greater reproductive success and investigate whether body size, age, or antler characteristics have a significant impact.
