A  Introduction to the SWFDW Meeting Programs 

The PDF files presented in this page have been generated from the (generally) stapled programs/abstracts of the SWFDW (Southwide Forest Disease Workshops) from 1967 to the present.  The SWFDW as we know it in 2005 evolved from a primarily research scientist meeting to the current cross sectional format where both research and applied scientists meet to share information and perspectives on the current interpretations of the science relevant to the practice of forest pathology. 

No programs/abstracts were available to me for the first 10 research workshops. I am uncertain as to whether anything beyond the programs (see the Powers/Miller history link below) even exist. Thus, presented here are the program/abstracts from 1967 to the present, 1967 being the year that the group was officially expanded to include applied scientists (State & Federal personnel performing the extension function as opposed to research.) There are no PDF files on page for the first five meetings: Jul. 14-16 1959 – Asheville, N.C.; Dec. 10-15, 1961 – Gulfport, Miss.; Jan. 22-23, 1963 – Univ. Ga., Athens, Ga.; Jun. 1964 – N.C. State Univ., Raleigh, NC; and, Aug. 31 – Sep. 1, 1965 – Univ. Ark., Fayetteville, Ark. 

I have created bookmarks, by author within sections as established in the index of each meeting, for the various year-files included. There are probably inconsistencies in this book marking and there are certainly typos remaining in them, but despite this the bookmarks should be useful in rapidly finding an abstract in a particular meeting program. Possibly of more use – I have ‘linked’ the titles of papers in the meeting index to the abstract itself; click anywhere in the title and you should jump to the abstract. The programs are presented with all of their warts (some of the mimeographed programs present very broken type even when enhanced in Photoshop, and the spirit masters of the 1975 sessions are a special case of tough-to-read.)  And, I have introduced another – the slightly off vertical page. Every so often my scanner decided to miss-feed a page and the product was slightly skewed. While I have tried to replace these, I am sure that some have been missed.
